I think its appalling the way our government is treating our Gurkha soldiers.
There is a test case going to court today on behalf of Mr Madan Gurung who served in the British Army for 24 years until 1993.
This case is one of many that have gone to the High Court and up till now all cases have gone in favour of the crown, but there is hope that this one may succeed, if not then as we know with the the Gurkha character, (which we have seen many times in fighting for this country) that they do not give up easily and I believe they should’t.
I have dealt with many Nepalese families and helped them to obtain mortgages. I have found them to be hardworking, (sometimes holding down two jobs), courteous, friendly and honourable.
It is unfair of this government to arbitrarily set a date of 1997 and saying that all soldiers who retire after this date are entitled to settle in this country and those who served up till that date cannot.
Yes there does have to be a cut off point but in my opnion 1997 is too recent.
I would love your comments and below is a link to an interview with Mr Gurung I wish him well.
